Fresh records continue to fall across some of the country's best fisheries. This week brings a Minnesota state-record bluegill, an Idaho angler reclaiming a lake trout title he once lost, and an angler setting Idaho's catch-and-release brown trout record. Minnesota Angler Sets New State Record With 2-Pound Bluegill. Chris Mulcahey of Waterville, landed a 2-pound bluegill from Big Stone Lake on May 29, earning a new Minnesota state record. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources certified the catch after confirming its weight on a certified scale, beating the previous record by 3 ounces. The record bluegill was one of nine new state records certified this spring. Big Stone Lake is known for producing quality panfish and other game fish. He Lost Idaho's Record Then Broke It Again. An Idaho angler reclaimed the state's catch-and-release lake trout record after landing a 43.25-inch giant from Payette Lake on May 2. The fish surpassed the previous 42-inch record, which had replaced Dylan Smith's own 41.5-inch mark set in 2018.
