Record Fish Making Headlines
The fishing world has been buzzing with record-breaking catches this past week. Here are three incredible stories worth reading:
Vermont's 10-Year-Old Makes History Grayson Carey of Colchester, Vermont, officially shattered the state's freshwater drum record with a massive 28.5-pound fish caught during the Lake Champlain International Father's Day Derby last June. The fish measured 37.5 inches long with a 29-inch girth, beating the previous 2016 record by three pounds. The catch earned Grayson over $26,000 in prize winnings and proved that freshwater drum deserve respect as a serious sportfish. Read More
Massive Louisiana Redfish That Got Away A potentially record-breaking Louisiana redfish had to be released due to new state regulations requiring all bull reds to be released unharmed. Veteran guide Mike Frenette and angler Jason Halfen from Boston landed a monster that taped 48.25 inches long with a 34-inch girth, estimated at 65 to 69 pounds. The current Louisiana record stands at 61 pounds from 1992. Frenette, who has 40 years of guiding experience, said he couldn't lift the fish into the boat without help. The anglers spent over three hours in non-stop action, with most fish caught that day measuring over 40 inches. Read More
British Barbel Record Shattered (Again) Nathan Buckingham captured a 23-pound barbel from England's River Lea, breaking the British record that was set just months earlier. The remarkable part? It's the same fish that held the previous 22-pound 1-ounce record, having gained 15 ounces since its last capture. Nathan, who has previously landed barbel of 20 pounds 9 ounces and 19 pounds 8 ounces, had his catch witnessed by two other anglers and weighed on three separate scales. He's submitted an official claim to the British Record Fish Committee. Read More
